a thousand year empire that just happened to be christian and whenever two or more gather in His name Christ is with them so if they happen to be reigning at the time, they are reigning with Christ 

so why is this such a mystery?

have the historians let us down?

not really, they actually created the byzantine empire to distinguish it from the roman empire which ended in the fifth century and the byzantine empire would continue to the fifteenth century and that is a thousand years

have the theologians let us down?

big time, they are all waiting for the second coming so Jesus can reign for a thousand years based on a misinterpretation of what is clearly said in the bible

they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years
