a way to unwind

A Beer Or Two –

A real treat. Some can’t drink. There are those who must. My dad was one of them. He had ten children so he wouldn’t have to get up to get another beer. One Lent he gave up beer and smoking. My mother would not allow it to happen again. “Doing penance is fine but forcing others to do it is wrong.”

A Thought Comes To Mind –

A meditation. Allowing your mind to wander. Is it worth writing down? Does it answer the question? The most important part of doing the daily writing prompt is to answer the question. Too often the question is ignored and used by the writer to say whatever he has on his mind. I had to jot this down.

a random encounter

A Stranger –

A positive meeting. I was a stranger in a strange land and needed a place to stay. Found a church and the pastor who was talking to Pat, a Fulbright Scholar, who knew where I could stay but first we had to have lunch and a few beers to talk about it. That included a discussion on the proofs for the existence of God. Her friend Martin, a Jew and also a Fulbright Scholar, was not happy. I was the second Catholic he had to put up because of Pat. Martin did a lot of entertaining and I would have to share all expenses with him. That would include two Russian students that he met at the University and Rocky, the first Catholic he had to put up. We all had too much to drink and made fun of our government but not theirs. After that the Russians would have nothing to do with us. Apparently they got reported for what they did.
