It was started by the Roman Empire that had seven dynasties. This is a good start. Does it fit with the other parts? We shall see. The “ten horns” are a clue in Daniel. Look for the number of years.

John sends us to the Old Testament for clues. John understood by books. John understood the Lamb of God and lamb is found 27 times in the Apocalypse.

A Julian Calendar –
A beginning in 44 BC. 622 in the Gregorian calendar, which began in 1582, was the beginning of the Islamic calendar. 666 in the Julian calendar marked the start of Islam. A number in Daniel 9:2 refers to the number of years. That is what Daniel understood by books. A calendar conversion requires a calculation.

A connection with prophecy. Different interpretations have led to over 60 different English bible translations. They all seem to agree on numbers. They all agree on a thousand years, 666, ten horns, seven heads, and five are fallen. Numbers can be used to connect history with prophecy which is the only way to verify the fulfillment of prophecy.

A Sea of Marmara –
A Greek fire on the Sea of Marmara, which was like a sheet of glass is a good fit with “a sea of glass mingled with fire”. Constantinople used Greek fire on the Sea of Marmara against the Islamic attack. The year was 666. Historians will never agree on this date but Gibbon got real close to it.
