A place to start. A thousand years is real. A time when they reigned with Christ. He promised to be with us when we gather in His name. If they were reigning when they gathered in His name, they reigned with Christ. That was the case with the Byzantine Empire, a Christian empire, that lasted a thousand years.

A connection. A bare record ties John the Baptist to John the Apostle and the Lamb of God. Just the word “lamb” ties John the Baptist to the Apocalypse. Only John the Apostle knew John the Baptist knew the Lamb of God. The original Apocalypse was about the first coming, which must shortly come to pass, to prepare the way.

A Recapitulation –
A commentary on the Apocalypse by Victorinus who introduced the theory of recapitulation. Without it misinterpretation is likely. The visions of John cannot be understood to be in chronological order. Each vision should be considered independent of the others. Some are a repetition of others. Recapitulation is a necessary tool in understanding the Apocalypse.
