of the Apocalypse. “Perhaps the most telling argument against the apostolic authorship of the book is its omission from the Peshito, the Syrian Vulgate.” – 405 Jerome Completes the Vulgate – 401 John Chrysostom was in Ephesus and he could be trusted. Someone had to convince Jerome the Apocalypse was written by John the Apostle.
A Good Question
that needs an answer. Many believe it doesn’t belong in the Bible. They don’t think it was written by John the Apostle. John Chrysostom was one of them but he was in Ephesus at the beginning of the fifth century and he had a chance to maybe look at the originals. Before this we do not know what the Apocalypse looked like. At this time Jerome was finishing the Vulgate which would become the official Bible of the Church.

A Chapter
in Acts finds Paul in Ephesus with followers of John the Baptist. John the Apostle must have known about that. He may have been asked to prophesy again. He would eat the little book then add the churches, Antipas, and Jesus. The little book would not have made it into the bible unless they believed the Apostle wrote it. Many didn’t.
A Conjecture
it is a reasonable explanation for the questions surrounding the Apocalypse. The original was about the first coming hence the time was near. Later in Ephesus there were John the Baptist followers who didn’t know Jesus. John the Apostle was well aware of this.
A Russian Astronomer
dated the Apocalypse astronomically to 30 September 395 and named John Chrysostom, who at the time was on his way to Ephesus, as the author. He was in Ephesus the first three months of the year 401. At this time, five of the seven dynasties of the Roman Empire had fallen.

A Brother
was in Ephesus at the beginning of the fifth century replacing seven bishops. Jerome was finishing the Vulgate which would become the official bible of the Church. There are no reliable copies of the Apocalypse prior to the fifth century. So we don’t know what it looked like prior to Chrysostom who was at the right place at the right time.

A Revelation
of what must shortly come to pass. Who are his servants? Who is his servant? There are three different Johns. John the Baptist who bare record. John the Apostle who knew the seven churches. John Chrysostom who was in Ephesus at the beginning of the fifth century when Jerome was completing his Latin translation. The Vulgate.
A Second John
to the seven churches. He ate the book and was told he must prophesy again. John the Apostle knew the followers of John the Baptist in Ephesus from Acts 19. He added the seven churches and Antipas. Jesus is the Lamb of the Apocalypse and the followers of the Baptist needed to know that.

A Canon
that includes the Apocalypse for one reason only. Jerome was convinced it was written by the Apostle John. Jerome communicated with everyone except Chrysostom. Chrysostom quoted every book of the Bible except the Apocalypse. He didn’t think it was written by the Apostle. His visit to Ephesus may have changed his mind.
