A bishop extraordinaire was in Ephesus to replace seven corrupt bishops at the beginning of the fifth century. John Chrysostom, who never quoted the Apocalypse, could not ignore what John the Apostle may have left there. At that time Jerome could have been looking for a reliable copy of the Apocalypse. He was finishing the Vulgate.

A dynasty. Five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come. The Roman Empire had seven dynasties. Chrysostom is the only significant John during the sixth dynasty and he was in Ephesus when Jerome was finishing the Vulgate. Someone had to verify that John the Apostle wrote the Apocalypse to get it in the bible.

A Mystery –
A beast that was, and is not. The beast that was had seven heads and the beast that is to come has ten horns. History will verify the fulfillment of prophecy. Only history can. Just look for it but don’t use your interpretation. Use numbers. They are not misleading. Nearly all the bible translations agree on the numbers. Not much else.

A Big Number –
A place to start. There is only one Christian empire that lasted a thousand years. It was attacked in the year 666. It was ended by the 10th dynasty of Islam. It was started by the Roman Empire that had seven dynasties. This is a good start. Does it fit with the other parts? We shall see. The “ten horns” are a clue in Daniel. Look for the number of years.

Only history with numbers can confirm the fulfillment of prophecy. Can you trust anyone’s interpretation? No, but you can trust the numbers. And colors.

A Recapitulation –
A commentary on the Apocalypse by Victorinus who introduced the theory of recapitulation. Without it misinterpretation is likely. The visions of John cannot be understood to be in chronological order. Each vision should be considered independent of the others. Some are a repetition of others. Recapitulation is a necessary tool in understanding the Apocalypse.

A rider named death. Pale, a stake, is a boundary mainly for Jews. The Sea of Azov between Ukraine and Russia is connected to the Black Sea and might be considered a pale sea. It is now a significant war zone that could lead to a nuclear confrontation. It could also be a sign of things to come. Come Lord Jesus.
