A Mark Of Mark
A date of origin. Mark marks the beginning of the gospel. The most common mark is a date “that no man might buy or sell” without it. So 666 was a date of the beginning. Of what? Of what calendar? Using the Julian calendar and 44 BC that date would be 622 CE of the Gregorian calendar that started in 1582.
A Year
A clue from Daniel. John knows Daniel and Daniel knows number of years. Do we know what happened in the year 666? No. We do know that Muawiyah was preparing to attack Constantinople, the capital of a Christian empire that would last a thousand years, where they reigned with Christ. What does Gibbon know?

A place to look for numbers. Daniel uses the word “number” in a reference to years. What happened in the year 666? Nothing. Historians stay away from that year. What calendar was in use that year? The Julian calendar. When did it start? 44 BC is a common year. So what happened in the year 622 CE? A year to consider.
A Christian Empire
A reign with Christ. The Byzantine Empire was a Christian empire that lasted a thousand years when they reigned with Christ. Does it fit with the other numbers: 666, ten horns, and seven heads? The number 666 is next. Daniel is a good place to look for clues. Does he know numbers?

A Greek fire was used and “the Sea of Marmara was like a sheet of glass”, The year was 666 and it was the first siege of Constantinople. It was a “victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name”. A fulfillment of prophecy in history.

A final chapter. These sayings are faithful and true. The translators not so much. They couldn’t agree so we have 60 different English translations with many more revisions. Try the Julian calendar using 44 BC. 622 CE is the beginning of Islam and that would be 666 of the Julian calendar.
A Life Eternal
A consequence of the choices we make. Beware of the second death. Fear only God who can destroy the soul. He knows your works. You are what you do. Talk is cheap. Walk the talk and avoid the second death. You can live forever with God. Just readeth, watcheth, keepeth and overcometh.

A Calendar Conversion
A number from Gibbon. “Forty-six years after the flight of Mahomet from Mecca, his disciples appeared in arms under the walls of Constantinople.” Put 46 in an Islamic Calendar converter and you get 666. Where did Gibbon get this number 46? An easier calculation is adding 44 BC to 622 CE, the Hijrah, in the Julian calendar and you get 666.
