A Time A coming.
A preparation. We should be preparing for the second coming but at the time the Apocalypse was first written they could have been preparing for the first coming. Not a common belief but a few have proposed this as a possibility. It is not unreasonable to consider this. Watch for a reasonable explanation.

A Connection With History
A prophecy fulfilled in history connected with numbers. Bible translations, versions, and interpretations vary considerably but somehow agree on numbers and colors so they can be reliably used to connect prophecy with history. Historians don’t always agree on numbers but they do get close enough.
A Search for Truth
A hidden prophecy to be revealed in the end. How? To those who watch? Watch for what? Something that fits with what has been prophesied. Based on your interpretation? Based on a certain bible translation? Is there anything that they agree on? Yes. Numbers and colors. Try connecting history and prophecy with just numbers and colors.

A First Coming
A reason for the Apocalypse. “The time is at hand.” It “must shortly come to pass”. Here we are 2000 years later still looking for the second coming. The reason for the Apocalypse was to prepare the way for the “lamb“. A word found 27 times in the Apocalypse. John the Baptist knew the Lamb of God.
A Prophecy
A testimony of Jesus Christ. Sealed by Daniel but not by John. What has been revealed is still a mystery to all of us. Many have theories as to what it may be with little agreement. Most would like to know what the future holds and a few are willing to inspect history for clues but misleading interpretations prevent them from recognizing what has already happened.

A Critical Time In Church History
A return of the great to lead the Church. Augustine, Chrysostom, and Jerome guided the Church into the fifth century. The rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. It may have been Augustine who said, “Oh no, not another Latin Bible”. The Vulgate would become the official bible of the Church.
A New Latin Translation
A validation of the Apocalypse. Jerome put it in his Vulgate. He believed it was written by John the Apostle. Many didn’t think this. Chrysostom was in Ephesus when Jerome was finalizing his bible and could have confirmed who wrote it. Patmos is not that far from Ephesus.
A Threat to the Church
A prophecy fulfilled. The greatest threats to the Church have come from Islam, the Red Sea, and Communism, from the Black Sea. Mohammed is the rider of the red horse and Marx is the rider of the black horse. The threat from the rider of the pale horse is not so clear and may be with us today. Death.

A speculation on the Apocalypse. J. Massyngberde Ford may have been the first to suggest John the Baptist wrote the first version of the Apocalypse. Others had already suggested multiple writers. “Studies in the Apocalypse” by R. H. Charles suggests it was first written in Hebrew and later translated into Greek.
A Persecution of the Church
A time of great suffering. A time to listen to what the spirit is saying to the churches. If you overcometh, you will not be hurt by the second death. The death of the soul. You need not worry about what can kill the body. This is a test and suffering is a big part of it. And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
