A year, a starting point, a date. Nearly all products have a mark or a date marking the beginning of its existence. A beast will also have a starting point and in most cases an end point. There could be an exception. One was diverse from all the beasts that were before it. How do we identify a beast?

A Recognition Of Prophecy In History
A reliable connection. Just as years are attached to the number thousand we look for what is attached to each number. If you search Daniel for the word number, you will see that it is also attached to years. What happened in the year 666 is a reasonable question.

A date of origin. Mark marks the beginning of the gospel. The most common mark is a date “that no man might buy or sell” without it. So 666 was a date of the beginning. Of what? Of what calendar? Using the Julian calendar and 44 BC that date would be 622 CE of the Gregorian calendar that started in 1582.

No. We do know that Muawiyah was preparing to attack Constantinople, the capital of a Christian empire that would last a thousand years, where they reigned with Christ. What does Gibbon know?

It was not the first major battle between the Christians and the Muslims. Gibbon notes his problem with the dates and in a way suggests 668.

They can be trusted in identifying historical events that might be a fulfillment of prophecy. Not just one number but all the numbers must fit.
