The “words of God” are seen differently by the many different translators. Who can you trust? Historians. What can you trust? Maybe numbers. Historians have trouble with dates but they do get close enough.

A year, a starting point, a date. Nearly all products have a mark or a date marking the beginning of its existence. A beast will also have a starting point and in most cases an end point. There could be an exception. One was diverse from all the beasts that were before it. How do we identify a beast?

A start. A date code is the most common mark on a product and “no man might buy or sell” without it. What started in 666? What calendar? 44 BC marked the beginning of the Julian calendar. 622 of the Gregorian calendar would be 666 of the Julian calendar. It marked the beginning of Islam.
A Historian Named Gibbon
A problem with dates. Gibbon gets close also with a calculation. “Forty-six years after the flight of Mahomet from Mecca, his disciples appeared in arms under the walls of Constantinople.” 622 is the beginning Islam. 668 is close but if you put 46 in an Islamic calendar converter, you get 666.

A date for the Apocalypse according to Morozov is 395. The writer is John Chrysostom. We can place him in Ephesus at the beginning of the fifth century replacing seven corrupt bishops. This is just before Jerome finishes his Vulgate which included the Apocalypse. Many believed it didn’t belong. Jerome had the authority to include it.

We have at least three calendars to consider. Julian 44 BC. Islamic 622 CE. Gregorian 1582 CE. Lots to consider when considering the year 666. A mark. A beginning.
A Clue From Daniel 9:2
A search for the word “number” suggests years in Daniel. So what happened in the year 666? Nothing. History does have the first siege of Constantinople by the Arabs about that time. It was not the first major battle between the Christians and the Muslims. Gibbon notes his problem with the dates and in a way suggests 668.
A Date for the Apocalypse
A bishop, John Chrysostom, is the writer according to the astronomer Nikolai Alexandrovich Morozov who sets the date as 395. At this time five of the seven dynasties of Rome had fallen. Chrysostom was in Ephesus at the end of the fourth century. Would he not look for evidence of the most famous book of the bible?
