A Fit with Daniel –
A horn is a dynasty and before whom there were three of the first horns. Saladin came out of the Fatimid Caliphate, the fourth of ten Islamic dynasties, and would start the fifth, the Ayyubid dynasty. We also have the Battle of the Horns of Hama and the Battle of the Horns of Hattin. Both involved Saladin. He not only beat the crusaders, he beat Richard the Lionheart. It’s a fit.

A suggestion that “the heads are seven successive dynasties” can be found in Sir Isaac Newton’s Daniel and the Apocalypse. The seven dynasties of the Roman Empire are listed here. The ten dynasties of Islam are listed here. Both are a fit with history. The Byzantine Empire started with the fifth dynasty of Rome and ended with the tenth dynasty of Islam.

A connection to Daniel. The “ten horns” of the fourth beast of Daniel are tied to the second beast of the Apocalypse. A sultan, and a perfect fit with Saladin if you know how to count caliphates, sultanates, or dynasties and can tell the difference.
